Sow and Grow: Sow indoors for surest results, January-May, 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) deep, in trays of compost. Water well and enclose in a clear, plastic bag to retain humiditiy. Place on a kitchen windowsill. A temperature of 15-20 degree C (60-68 degree F) is ideal. Seedlings usually appear in 28-42 days. If not, place tray in the refrigerator for two weeks, then return to the warmth. Transplant seedlings individually to 7.5 cm (3-inch) pots when large enough to handle. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out into moist, fertile soil, May-August, 90 cm (3-feet) apart, when frosts are over. Flowers: August-October, the following year.
Hints and Tips: Once established, mature plants can be trimmed back and divided, in early spring, to encourage new growth and increase your stock.
